All of Hess’s artwork uses composition, balance and pure color to create her vibrant and illuminating palette. Trained as a graphic designer, Hess has degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration and Visual Communication. Her work portrays that of an artist with more than 30 years of experience in her profession. She is the owner of the boutique design firm, The Grace Group, located in San Diego, California. A full service design studio offering Fine Art Direction, Original Watercolor, Oil Pastel, Pen and Ink, Acrylic, Fine Art Photography, Fine Art Instruction, and Commissions.  All Fine Art Pieces produced are signed and numbered. The highest Museum Quality standards are used.

Your decision to collect Hess’s artwork should be made with confidence. In addition to recognizing and representing the natural world, Hess works to capture nature and human engineering. She is the fifth generation granddaughter of the esteemed Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry. Tracing her Naval legacy moved her to photograph the sea and its vessels. The unparalleled courage exhibited by the early seaman of the United States and her grandfather is one of her inspirations. Hers is an art that seeks to share that inspiration.

In addition to creating and selling her own original artwork, she has been the Fine Art Director at Mission Bay Montessori Academy for the last 10 years. “One of the greatest gifts you can share is your passion and talent. It has been a privilege to teach and touch the lives of more than 2500 students.” Her students’ artwork graces the San Diego Museum of Art and NASA, and wins blue ribbons and best of show at the Del Mar Fair. As a resident of San Diego, walking the paths and beaches of its coastlines, hills, and trails, she paints on location capturing the beauty of San Diego.

Hess has her degree in Visual Communications Graphic Design from San Diego State University with a minor in business and marketing. She also has associate degrees in Graphic Design and Illustration from Mount Ida College, Newton Centre in Massachusetts. She has always worked as an artist form doing medical illustrations at Harvard University Dental School to working in New York City in Advertising for Pepsi and New Line Cinema, as well as Lord and Taylor’s Advertising Department, 5th Avenue, New York. She also worked for the San Diego Business Journal as a Graphic Designer.

The Hess Grace Collection had its own gallery in La Jolla Shores and UTC. Hess’s artwork is also on display at La Quinta Resort and Club in Palm Springs, California. The Waldorf Astoria is one of her many clients.
